A possible link between gum disease and heart attacks
Walter Loesche - a dentistry professor at Michigan University - said "We have found that patients with coronary artery disease have higher levels of the bacteria that cause gum disease. It seems likely that they travel through the bloodstream and damage the lining of blood vessels."
A full report on this link between gum disease, heart disease and in fact other problems including diabetes, arthritis and pneumonia appeared in The Sunday Times (UK) on 4 April 99. The article - EE BAH GUM by Jerome Burne
- is in the Style Section of that newspaper. |
