Isoflavone | Phytoestrogen
The terms Isoflavone and Phytoestrogen are often confused. Phytoestrogen actually
comprises at least three groups - isoflavones, lignans and coumestans. The
Isoflavone sub-group is a large one which includes many known components -
genistein, daidzein, daidzin, biochanin, formononetin, equol, mononetin and many
more. Often no distinction is made
between Phytoestrogen and Isoflavone, or the term Isoflavone may be used for the
whole sub-group, or for its individual components, without its meaning being
clear.
Tofupill is unlike any supplement that contains a few extracted
isoflavones, eg genistein and daidzin. It is naturally derived with a unique enzymatic process which
ensures that the whole phytoestrogen family of compounds including the lignans
and the coumestans, as found in tofu, remain in its naturally intact form.

09/05/2006 - Isoflavone supplementation does not help alleviate hot flashes
for postmenopausal women, says a new meta-analysis.
[Note -
medically "postmenopausal" means having started the menopause and onwards.]
Effect of isoflavone on bone mass density
By Sanne Kreijkamp-Kaspers MD, PhD
Conclusion: This double-blind randomized trial does
not support the hypothesis that the use of soy protein supplement containing
isoflavones improves cognitive function, bone mineral density, or plasma
lipids in healthy postmenopausal women when started at the age of 60 years
or later.

Hot flushes and menopausal symptoms: Interactions between treatment group
and menopausal status for changes in menopausal symptom score and number of
hot flushes were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Among women who
experienced hot flushes at either assessment period, or among women whose
menopausal symptom score was greater than zero at either assessment period,
there were no significant effects of treatment group on hot flushes or
menopausal symptoms. The above three studies do not apply
to Tofupill which is not in the same category as Isoflavone based
supplements as explained above. Tofupill has been proven effective to
help with the menopause. Furthermore the recommended intake of 2
capsules per day has shown a positive effect on bone health in women from
the perimenopause onwards. Publication details of the main studies are shown on
this website. We would emphasise
that the Tofupill trials are done to the high standards required by
international medical journals and are approved by the Helsinki Committee (a
regulatory body for trials). These published studies on Tofupill make
it the most well-proven of any menopausal supplement. Further
scientific information is available to doctors and other health
practitioners.
