Allergic contact dermatitis

Posted by lucyfreeman on May 11, 2012

Allergic contact dermatitis is an allergic reaction which oddly occurs 48-72 hours AFTER you’ve been exposed to the allergen.

The most common causes of allergic contact dermatitis are nickel (a common reaction is where a zip touches bare skin, like a jeans button on the stomach, or a reaction to a necklace) perfumes in deodorants, latex in things like plasters and mouse pads, swimming goggles and rubber gloves, and antibiotic creams.

Go and see your GP and get your suspicions confirmed, but don’t worry; all the common allergens have alternatives so life won’t get much more difficult.

PitROK reduces stress levels, says fan

Posted by lucyfreeman on April 23, 2012

We’ve had a fabulous letter from a PitROK fan in Cambridgeshire, who says she is “so pleased with the product – life changing is maybe slightly dramatic but it has certainly reduced my stress levels as I am no longer worried about having to carry spare tops….I also feel better about the environmental aspects of not spraying aerosol and the deodorant lasting much longer than average.”

Well we like a bit of drama at PitROK. Itchy armpits and the fear of smelly armpits is extremely stressful, and we’re delighted we could lower this lady’s stress levels. It’s a stressful world, and every little helps.

TELLING SOMEONE THEY SMELL IS THE PITS

Posted by lucyfreeman on April 13, 2012

Our survey has revealed that 69% of men have had to break the news to a friend that their deodorant is now longer working.

As the weather warms up, surreptitious armpit sniffing becomes the norm on public transport and in offices. Hormonal changes and alterations in immune response can cause your body to resist your habitual deodorant, but what do you do if you are the one who has to break it to someone that they’re not nice to be near? Clive Birnie, our CEO says: “Breaking this news to someone requires absolute discretion and forethought, and is definitely not the sort of thing you should rush into.

“In a work situation you should tell the person on their own, obviously, and begin by telling them that it’s just something you have noticed. There’s no magic, positive way to say it, but you can assure them that it is a minor problem and easily fixed, and that it is very recent; no-one wants to think that they have been smelling unpleasant for months and no-one’s told them as it makes you question all your encounters which can be very unsettling.”

As nearly a quarter of us develop an allergy to our deodorants, (itchy armpits, rashes etc) people occasionally choose to lay off the deodorant completely. A better choice might be a natural deodorant like PitROK, with the efficacy of a chemical deodorant but formulated with aloe vera and grapefruit seed extract leaving skin feeling fresh and revitalised.

If you’ve ever had to break the news to a friend or colleague, drop us a line at pr@sarahsmith.co.uk and the best tip for doing so tactfully will win a selection of PitROK.

Are you ‘groom curious’?

Posted by lucyfreeman on March 30, 2012

No, it doesn’t mean you’ve been taking your role as Best Man at your mate’s wedding a little too seriously, it means that you are getting interested in male grooming but are a bit embarrassed about admitting it. So, how’s your back looking? Cristiano Ronaldo or something David Attenborough would study?
Did you know that since 2010, UK men have been the greatest back wax adopters? Not quite so keen on the Full Monty (ie back, sack and crack) but nevertheless five times more UK men than US men wax. Waxes usually peak in July and August (a pre holiday deforestation, we presume), and only 2.76% of back waxes are bought as gifts, so there’s no pretending your girlfriend lured you into it….
We at PitROK believe that anything that makes you feel cool and comfortable is good and it’s no-one’s business but yours how you ‘manage your borders’, as it’s known in the beauty trade.
This research comes courtesy of Wahanda, which offers a huge range of male waxing services. So man up, and hair off.

THE ITCHY & SCRATCHY SHOW

Posted by cbirnie on March 16, 2012

Did you know that nearly a quarter of all women experience some sort of reaction to a personal care product over a year? Or that deodorants are the most frequent reason for an allergy test?

A survey, conducted by the Environmental and Contact Dermatitis Unit at the Amersham Hospital in Buckinghamshire, revealed that 23% of women and 13.8% of men experience some sort of adverse reaction to a personal care product over the course of a year.

The usual suspect for an allergic reaction is washing powder, and people will often change their washing powder two or three times before considering their deodorant may be at fault. So if you see someone having a surreptitious under-arm scratch, slip them the word about PitROK!
